Christmas and New Year Travel Updates 2025/2026

Whether you’re heading home for the holidays, visiting family and friends, or making the most of the festive season, make sure to check your travel plans before you start your journey, and where possible, please book in advance, particularly for our busier services and especially on airport routes.


Christmas & New Year Schedule Updates 

To help you plan your journeys, please note that some college, airport and local services will pause or run amended timetables over the festive period.

  • Christmas Day – no services will operate.
  • Main and Airport Routes – these will resume fully on St Stephen’s Day and run as normal over New Year.
  • College Routes – to Carlow SETU, Maynooth University and Limerick TUS/MIC will finish on Friday, 19th December and resume in January (dates vary by route, please see full schedule below).
  • Local Routes – These will have revised schedules over Christmas Eve, St Stephen’s Day, and New Year’s Day.
  • Local Links – These will have revised schedules over Christmas Eve, St Stephen’s Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Main Routes & Airport Routes

Christmas Day is the only day our Main and Airport Routes are not in action. Our bus drivers need to take a little rest with their families! These services will resume fully on St Stephen’s Day (26th) and run normally over New Year’s.


Daily College Routes

Carlow SETU

All college services to the Carlow SETU Campus will finish on Friday, 19th December and resume Monday, 12th January.

On the 874, this impacts the 16:00 Carlow – Tullow service only


Maynooth University

All buses serving Maynooth University will finish on Friday, 19th December and resume briefly for the exam period, from Friday, 9th January to Friday, 26th January (including Saturdays). All services will resume as usual from Tuesday, 3rd February.


Limerick TUS and Limerick MIC

All college services to and from TUS and MIC will finish on Friday, 19th December and resume as usual on Monday, 12th January.


Local Routes

The following services will finish on Tuesday, 23rd December, and resume on Monday, 29th December. We will not operate on New Year’s Day and will fully commence services on Monday, 5th January.

Waterford City Services

The Waterford city service will finish on Christmas Eve. The last service from Clock Tower to Dunmore Road will depart at 18:15, and the previous service to Slieverue will leave the Quays at 17:45. 

The service will resume fully on Friday, 27th December. No buses will run on New Year’s Day and will resume operations as usual on Friday, 2nd January.


Local Links

139 Naas – Blanchardstown

The last services on the 139 Naas – Blanchardstown route will depart at 21:00 on Christmas Eve and will not operate on Christmas Day. They will resume on St. Stephen’s Day from 09:00 and continue as normal for the remainder of the holiday, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day will also operate as normal.

815 Tullamore – Athlone

The 815 service will operate as normal on Christmas Eve, with no services on Christmas Day. All services will resume as normal on St Stephen’s Day except for the 22:00 Tullamore to Athlone and 23:15 Athlone to Tullamore which will not be running.

Normal service continues throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays with the exception of the Tullamore to Athlone and 23:15 Athlone to Tullamore on New Year’s Day, which will not be running.

858 Portlaoise – Thurles

The 858 service will operate as normal on Christmas Eve with the exception of the 20:25 Portlaoise to Urlingford and 21:30 Urlingford to Portlaoise which will not be running.

There will be no services on Christmas Day or St Stephen’s Day, with normal service resuming on Saturday 27th December.

New Year’s Eve will operate as normal, except the 20:25 Portlaoise to Urlingford and 21:30 Urlingford to Portlaoise which will not be running. There will be no services on New Year’s Day.


Over Christmas, some of our more popular routes will be in demand, so where possible, please take the opportunity to plan your journey, and pre-book your tickets.
