We’re delighted to have introduced Contactless Payment Technology on-board most of our services across the JJ Kavanagh coaches and Local Links bus network.
Please note: the following services do not accept contactless payments, only cash or Leap Cards:
- 139 Naas – Blanchardstown
- 183 Glendalough – Wicklow
- 363 Tallow – Dungarvan
- 828 Cashel – Portlaoise
In line with our desire to reduce cash handling across all our routes, we kindly ask customers to book their tickets in advance whenever possible. If advance booking isn’t an option, we encourage customers to pay with their bank card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or use their free travel pass when boarding the coach.
Contactless Payment FAQ’s
1. Can I use my mobile to pay?
Yes, we accept Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay, as well as bank-specific payment options like Barclays Mobile Payments.
2. How does contactless work?
Contactless is a simple and secure way to pay for bus travel without needing cash. Contactless payments can be made for any tickets up to the transaction value of €50.
3. How do I get a refund?
Drivers can process refunds for card transactions directly at the point of purchase, refunding the amount back to your card. Please note that drivers are unable to issue cash refunds. If you request a refund, the driver will provide you with a refund receipt. The refund should then appear in your account within five working days.
4. How do I know if a card is contactless?
Contactless cards will display the contactless symbol. Most new cards are issued with this feature. If your card is not currently contactless, speak to your bank to ask if your card can be updated.
5. Which contactless cards can be used?
Payment cards displaying the contactless logo from Visa or Mastercard logo can be used. We also accept Apple Pay and Google Pay.
6. Which services are accepting contactless payment?
Contactless payment is available on all JJ Kavanagh services.
7. Which tickets can be bought using contactless?
You can use contactless to purchase any ticket to the value of €50. This can include more than one ticket in a single transaction, e.g. an adult and a child ticket. However, the total price cannot exceed €50.
8. Why did a payment not work?
Drivers will not know the reason why a payment did not work. If a payment fails, you may wish to try a different card or pay using an alternative payment method such as cash or purchasing a ticket online.
Some of the reasons why a card may not work include:
- The card has expired.
- The card is not contactless-enabled.
- The card type is not accepted (e.g., American Express).
- The payment exceeds the €50 contactless limit.
- A previous transaction was declined, and the card has been blocked by our system.
- The bank has not approved the transaction.
- The card has not been used at a Chip and PIN terminal before.
If a card does not work, please contact your issuing bank for advice.
9. Why is the limit set at €50?
A nationwide limit of €50 has been set by all banks for contactless payments.
10. Will I get a receipt?
The driver will ask you for a receipt once your transaction has gone through, along with a ticket for your journey.
